About Us

The mission of the Young People's Department is to promote the cultural, social, educational, religious, mental and physical development of the participants.  We strive to aid in the development of the whole individual.  Through our programs, we will empower and enable the participants to become productive citizens, and build their self-esteem.

The premise of our academic assistance is that students can succeed academically through mentoring, tutorial assistance, and enhancement meetings.  We encourage critical thinking; and teach the participants how to devise strategies that produce positive outcomes.

Counseling addresses many of the issues these young people face in society.  We believe it is important to teach appreciate social skills.  Civility, respect, and common decency are lacking in our culture and can contribute to conflicts and violence among young people.

We believe it is imperative to promote both good mental and physical health in our young people, because it is germane to their well-being and future success.  Studies show that today's young people are at risk for health problems that will shorten their life expectancy.

Cultural enrichment, volunteerism and community awareness are essential components of our mission, in keeping with our commitment to the total development of the participants.  Participants travel locally, nationally and internationally to broaden their worldview.  This provides an opportunity for them to learn the importance of their place in society.

There is a substantial volunteer staff to ensure this mission is achieved.  The volunteers assist with program activities.  Also, as a means to give back to the community, the young people often serve as volunteers for program activities.
