 Zaria Bonds an eighth grade student at Byram Middle School, where she received high honors the first marking period; received a certificate for outstanding achivement on the MCT2 (language arts, math and reading) in 2010; a member of the Junior Beta Club; plays the flute in the band, for which she was awarded a certificate for outstanding performance in that section during the 2009-10 school year.  Also, Zaria was recognized for her achievement of honor roll for one marking peiod, and high honors for three marking periods, during the 2008-'09 academic year at Byram Middle School.  We salute you, Zaria!  Because of her outstanding academic achievement at Bailey Magnet High School,
 
LaTasha Brown was nominated for membership in The National Society of High School Scholars.  LaTarsha, we applaud you for this achievement.  We are very proud of you!
Maya Samara Brown was honored as the 2011 eleventh grade Homecoming Maid.  Maya, we salute you. 
 

We salute Jarvon Gaines, a fourth grader, for making honors at Jackson Academy during the 2010-'11 academic year.  In addition, Jarvon is a sports enthusiast.  He is an active participant on the North Jackson Red Sox baseball team; and the First Baptist Grizzlies League basketball team; and the Jackson Academy football team.  He received second place in the fourth grade geography bee; and placed fourth at the school level.  We are confident he is destined for greatness!

Robert Gardner won second place in the Callaway High School Science Fair (2010); and fifth place in the Regional Science Fair at Jackson State University.  Congratulations, Robert!

DeAngelo Hodge received honors during the first marking period of the 2008-'09 academic year.  Congratulations, DeAngelo.

Congratulations to Ashley Martin for making the high honor roll during the first, second, third, and fourth marking periods of her senior year -- the 2007-'08 academic year.  Way to go, Ashley!  Ashley is attending Jackson State University as an accounting major.  Ashley was awarded a 2008-2009 scholarship from Union Pacific; the Freida R. Powell Endowed Scholarship in June, 2009; and one of "30 FedEx Scholars across the U.S." because of her "commitment to higher education" in November, 2009.  In addition, Ashley was inducted into the Sigma Alpha Pi chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success, after completing its training program and committing to "further personal leadership development."  Also, she was initiated into the Alpha Lambda Delta chapter of the National Academic Honor Society for Freshmen.  Ashley, we are so proud of you!  She made the President's List the first semester; and the Dean's List the second semester of her freshman year; she made the Dean's List the first and second semester of her sophomore year.  You go Ashley!  Ashley made the Dean's List during the final marking period of 2010-'11.  We salute you, Ashley.

We salute Jamal Shelby for receiving high honors during the first and second marking periods during his junior year -- 2007-'08 academic year!  You go Jamal!

Xavier Smith took TaeKwonDo six years.  She holds a third-degree black belt in karate.  As a finalist in the 2010 National American Miss Pageant, Xavier was awarded trophies for Miss Personality runner-up, Best Thank You Letter runner-up, State Finalist, Most Program Participation, and Spirit Award.  Xavier, we salute you.  As a participant in the 2011 National American Miss Pageant,  

We Salute Ashley Watson, who auditioned for and was accepted into the Mississippi Girls' Choir.  Way to go, Ashley!  The choir performed at Carnagie Hall in New York, on January 13, 2008.  It has been reported that Ashley's contribution to the performance was simply outstanding!  "Because of outstanding character and achievement," Ashley has been elected to membership into The National Junior Beta Club at Byram Middle School.  Congratulations, Ashley!

Nelgen Wilson was selected as Mr. Freshman at Callaway High School for the 2011-'12 academic year.  Way to go, Nelgen!
